The Move Toward Low-Cost Marketing

I feel like the marketing world has been flipped upside-down on it’s head in the past year, especially in the past few weeks.

The new wave of marketing hit when brands started doing brand deals with influencers, but as soon as that become popular, it switched. Recently, we saw brands partner with influencers to launch products together…

And has it worked or what?!?!

After launching Charli D’Amelio’s drink, Dunkin saw their app downloads grow by 57%. Let me say that again for those in the back: 57%.

Now, brands like Dunkin have already moved onto…

I firmly believe that by 2025, social apps like the ones above will look completely different.

In particular, social media apps (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook), dating apps, and LinkedIn will see the most change over the next 3–5 years. Let’s look at each one of these individually.

Social Media Apps (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook)

Right now, these apps are already facing the most scrutiny by the government that they have ever seen. Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey already had a rough ride testifying on Capital Hill the other week, and it didn’t feel like it went well for him. …

I love my music. I would be lost without it. I currently have headphones in listening to some Mumford and Sons while punching my keyboard. This morning I listened to Dave Matthews Band during my run. On my way to class today, I listened The Killers new album. Point is, I don’t know what I would do without music.

I think a good portion of Gen Z feels the same way. We love our music.

For the most part Gen Z is mostly on Spotify or Apple Music. I would say the split is 70% Spotify, 30% Apple Music (based…

Early last week Facebook announced a new vertical of their platform called Facebook Campus. The feature will be a tab inside Facebook where students can interact with other students from their university, essentially a social network for colleges. This launch comes as Facebook is losing their grip on Generation Z. In high school, I would go on facebook everyday. Now, I go days without entering the app.

If you know me at all, you’d know that my sophomore year at Elon University, a friend and I tried to launch a college-exclusive social network. Unfortunately it failed due to lack of…

RobinHood Logo

So high school clearly didn’t teach Gen Z enough finance, because once the car-rental company, Hertz, announced bankruptcy, shares skyrocketed over 450%. People should realize that once companies announce bankruptcy all shares are essentially worth $0…

Anyways, as you have probably heard, day trading has been a huge trend during quarantine. In fact, the popular investing app, Robinhood, “saw a historic 3 million new accounts in the first quarter” (CNBC). I would place a big bet that the average age of these accounts is under 25. …

I read a teaser to a report the other day on business insider called, “Banking & Payments for Gen Z Report: The winning strategies for attracting the next big opportunity — Generation Z”. I saw they included a few key takeaway from the report and I wanted to give gen z’s comment on them.

“Gen Z’s lack of financial services product adoption offers providers a long runway for growth. While two-thirds of Gen Zers have a bank account, many don’t yet use debit cards, haven’t aged into credit cards or loans, and aren’t responsible for the bulk of their own…

You know what psychological principle people hate? The fear of missing out, or FOMO. Let me tell you, Gen Z absolutely hates the idea of FOMO more than any generation. It brings feelings of anxiety, self worth, insecurity, good/bad decision making …(the list goes on), all into play.

This is why Clubhouse needs to continue to use FOMO in order to acquire customers when they launch their new audio-focused social media app. If you haven’t been following VC and startup twitter recently, you probably don’t know about Clubhouse. …

Tom Lombardozzi’s (Co-founder and CFO)Take:

Back in May of 2019, my good buddy and I ventured out to start our first startup. We had an idea to make a new social media platform exclusively for your campus. The app would feature 8 second videos, a top 10 page, and you could only access it through a .edu email.

After 7 months of development (3 months longer than expected), we launched on October 24th. We had 250 users in the first 24 hours and over 30% engagement rate. Yet, as the weeks went on we gained users and lost engagement. After…

When looking at the Gen Z market, it is no secret there is one app that has taken our generation by storm, that app is tiktok.

There are a few reasons that this app is so popular and why it made a great investment for any private investor. To start, it’s simple short-form entertainment. As I touched upon in the Cloosiv piece, Gen Z is all about getting satisfaction as quickly as possible, when it comes to tiktok this satisfaction comes in the form of dopamine. Videos can be no longer than 60 seconds and are usually accompanied by music…
